blackbirdau:

Sollux serves as the Helmsman for Feferi’s flagship. He is perhaps the most powerful psionic that Alternia has seen in quiet sometime and his strong Moirailship with Feferi keeps both himself level headed and Feferi brave and stalwart.
Sollux is viewed by most of the planetside trolls with a level of sublime horror. “The Ship That Can Walk” is what they whisper, with an air of mystified terror. A helmsman’s arms and legs are amputated when he is ‘married’ to his ship, his nerves linked in to the unending living technology of the starship he is to pilot. His vocal chords are severed and he becomes the vessel, a living breathing machine of blood and metal. Like all Alternian technology.
But Sollux Captor walks free; thanks to human technology, his own ingenuity, and a B100 b100d mechanical savant. The cold touch of silver interfacing ports a light price for the freedom of limbs.
Human technology unnerves most Trolls, it has no life of it’s own. Souless and hollow and unable to connect to the subconscious hivemind, it is entirely alien to Alternian natives. But Sollux is the first to see the powerful advantages it can offer, it’s abilities far outstripping the limitations of Alternia’s hiveculture technology.
The reverse engineering of human technology is perhaps the largest advantage Feferi’s regime will hold over the Condesce in the usurpation.
